Take a Selfie! The beginning of this article may lead you to believe it is about how to take the perfect selfie with your phone. You may be asked to do that later. With the day to day hustle and bustle of daily obligations, it is often forgotten to stop and do something good for self.
Most start the day by going to work for 8 or more hours, arrive home to take care of the responsibilities waiting there, go to bed and begin the routine again. After a while it becomes a habit of doing things mostly for others, but neglecting personal self-care.
The selfie being referenced here requires you to stop and do something just for you. For instance, participating in an activity or event that you enjoy would be excellent self-care. It is good practice to have self-care activities that are achievable daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. Participating in self-care activities can be things that are free and require little to no planning or, occasionally splurging to take a quick getaway.
The emotional, physical, and mental requirements of everyday life stressors can create an opportunity for increased stress, burn out, and poor life balance. It can be beneficial for one to meditate, exercise, practice yoga, or read daily affirmations to promote increased relaxation, coping, and stress reduction.
Your metaphorical and literal “selfie” may foster an awareness for the need of increased self-care. The connection between mindfulness and the overall well-being impacts other areas of life. When was the last time you took a selfie?
